Downtown
Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall (Red) + 10 min walk or paid tramlet
Banks, Emirates/du shops, fashion, cinema, aquarium. Treat it as infrastructure, not a tourist errand — you will be here for a SIM, a laptop cable, and AC in August.
Al Barsha
Mall of the Emirates (Red), inside the mall
Ski Dubai, Carrefour, strong mid-brand mix. One of the sanest ‘I just landed’ malls — metro dumps you in the building.
Jebel Ali / Gardens
Ibn Battuta (Red)
Themed courts, cheaper casual dining, handy if you live DIP, Discovery, or Jebel Ali.
Deira
GG / Al Rigga side of Green Line — short taxi or walk depending on exit
Older Dubai, denser, more local. Good for first-week bargains and a Carrefour shop.
Dubai Hills
No metro in the mall yet — car, bus, or taxi
The suburban ‘we live here’ mall: supermarket, clinics, kids, cinema. If your compound is Hills / Mohammed Bin Rashid City, this is your high street.
Mirdif
No metro — buses and cars
East Dubai family mall. Union Coop and a full high-street. Useful if you work towards the airport and live Mirdif / Mizhar / Warqa.
Al Wasl / Jumeirah
No metro — taxi, bus, or a long walk from Financial Centre
Open-air, restaurants, cinema. Weekend evening place, not a weekly grocery run.
Festival City
No metro — car or bus
IKEA, hypermarket, creekside restaurants. A practical Saturday if you are furnishing a flat.
Marina
DMCC or Sobha Realty + tram / walk
Smaller. Fine for a late grocery and a cinema if you already live on the water.
Palm Jumeirah
Tram + Palm Monorail, or car
Palm residents’ mall. Not worth a special trip from International City.
Jumeirah 1
No metro
Italianate, walkable, independent-feeling. Lunch and a bookshop more than electronics.
International City
Buses; some days a long taxi from Rashidiya
Wholesale-to-retail for home setup: lamps, racks, phone accessories. Haggle a little. Go with a list.
