Cost of living in Dubai 2026 — a month that actually adds up

Rent, DEWA, groceries, NOL, school if you have one. The number people Google, without the influencer math.

A single professional in a metro studio can live on a different planet from a family in a Springs townhouse. Both are ‘Dubai’. Start with rent, then DEWA, then food, then the commute. School fees, if they apply, are a second rent.

Rent is the line

  • Studio feel, metro-side: often AED 35–55k a year in JLT, Barsha, Business Bay, older Deira.
  • One-bed towers: AED 55–90k depending on view and whether you are paying for the fountain.
  • Townhouse / 3-bed: Springs, JVC, Town Square, International City — a wide band. Read the area guide, not a reel.

After rent

DEWA in summer is the bill that surprises people from mild climates. Budget a few hundred dirhams extra from May to September. Groceries: Carrefour and Lulu are the default; a British or organic basket costs what it costs at home. NOL silver is AED 3 / 5 / 7.50 a ride. A car is insurance, salik, petrol, parking — not just the EMI.

A usable leftover

If basic salary plus housing minus rent, DEWA, food and commute leaves under AED 2,500, you will be tired by month four. That is the test we use on this site. Overtime and ‘OTE’ are not rent.

Run the rent calculator on the Areas page with your real offer. Then talk to a specialist if the number and the neighbourhood still do not meet.
