Probation, notice, leaving clean
Probation is up to six months. Notice after that is in the contract, commonly 30 days, and cannot exceed 90.
Limited contracts are the default now. During probation either side can end it with the shorter notice written in the contract (often 14 days if the employee resigns). After probation, 30 days is the usual notice; the law caps notice at 90 days.
Garden leave, buying out notice, and unused annual leave should be in writing. Walking off without notice is how people get absconding files. Serve the letter, keep a copy, collect the labour experience letter.
