Where to sit with a laptop, where to stand with a karak, and why both are the city.
Dubai has a loud specialty scene — Al Quoz warehouses, Jumeirah villas, DIFC counters — and a quieter system that actually wakes the city: cafeterias, karak, and a glass of tea for a few dirhams.
If you need wifi
DIFC and some Downtown shops tolerate a laptop because that is the trade. Al Quoz is for people who care about the coffee. Jumeirah villas are for a long Saturday. Marina charges tourist rent on the same espresso. Look at the room before you unpack a charger; some cafes are designed for 20 minutes and a photograph.
If you need to be awake on AED 10
Deira, Bur Dubai, Karama, International City, Al Nahda. A cafeteria will sell you karak, milk tea, and an egg or paratha. This is not a lesser Dubai. It is how shift workers and new arrivals eat before the first salary.
Learn one Arabic coffee (gahwa) too — light, cardamom, small cups, dates if you are lucky. It is hospitality, not a caffeine bomb.
