Bringing your wife to the UAE: how to sponsor a spouse

You can bring your wife to the UAE on a family residence visa once your own visa is already issued. The official rule on u.ae is a salary of AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 if accommodation comes with the job. Your job title no longer decides it. The same rule covers a wife sponsoring her husband. You pay the fees. Nobody else should ask you for money to “arrange” her visa.

What you need before you apply

• Your passport, residence visa and Emirates ID, with time left on them
• Salary certificate in Arabic, or your contract. Investors use bank statements
• Ejari, or a title deed, big enough for two
• A no-objection letter if your free zone asks for one
• Her passport, at least six months left, and a white-background photo
• The marriage certificate, attested and translated into Arabic

Attestation is the step that delays people. The certificate is checked in the country that issued it, then at the UAE embassy there, then at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the UAE. Start that before you buy a ticket. A typing shop cannot skip it.

Where you file

If your visa was issued in Dubai, the file goes to GDRFA, online or at an Amer centre. If it was issued in another emirate, it goes to ICP smart services. You open the sponsor file, then the entry permit for her. When she arrives she does the medical — required from age 18, a blood test and a chest X-ray at an approved centre — then Emirates ID biometrics, then the residence stamp. The stamp usually follows the length of your own visa, often one to three years. Gulf News says finish the file within 60 days of her entry. Read the date on the permit itself.

What it costs

Gulf News, on 5 August 2025, listed these base government figures: entry permit about AED 550, file opening AED 300, a two-year Emirates ID AED 385, medical about AED 320, and visa stamping about AED 580. If she is already inside the UAE and must change status, they listed about AED 750 more. Typing, translation, insurance and the attestation itself sit on top. The screen on GDRFA or ICP shows the live total before you pay. Those August 2025 numbers are a budget, not a receipt.

Children, and the line she cannot cross

The same sponsor can add unmarried daughters and sons under 25, and children of determination. A family visa is not a work permit. If she wants a salary, an employer files a separate work permit, or she looks at a freelance product. If your visa is cancelled, hers is cancelled with it. Parents are a different application with a much higher income test. Do not use AED 4,000 for that file.
